From antique shops and Amish retailers to factory outlets and sprawling malls, the Buckeye State's Akron-Canton region ranks as a prime area for discerning shoppers.
Summit County's Akron options include Aurora Farms Premium Outlets, with 70 designer and name brand outlets stores, and Mustard Seed Market & Café, Ohio's largest natural food store, filled with organic produce, hand-crafted breads, extensive deli and a complete line up of herb and homeopathic remedies, plus gourmet foods and wine. Quaker Square Complex, the renovated site of the original Quaker Oats factory listed in the National Register of Historic Places, houses great restaurants, a Pie Factory and specialty shops for items from Thomas Kinkade art to hot sauces. Malls include Chapel Hill, anchored by JCPenney, Rolling Acres, anchored by Sears, Kaufmann's, JCPenney, Target, and Dillard's Clearance Center, and Summit, with Kaufmann's, Dillard's, and Zany Brainy. Stark County's Canton area also serves as a specialty shop treasure trove. Adamson's Antiques & Christmas Shop offers vintage items by chance or appointment, while Amish Door Shoppes features Victorian and country collectibles and bulk foods. In Navarre's historic Rochester House, Barb's Books on the Square specializes in new and used hardbacks, signed first editions, Oprah's Picks, and special orders. Harry London Candies offers guided one-hour chocolate journeys through the creative process and strolls through the Chocolate Hall of Fame near the gift shop, while the Hartville Chocolate Factory carries candy-making supplies. Minerva's Lily of the Valley Herb Farm stocks essential oils, botanicals, teas, and dried floral arrangements. Canton Centre Mall, with the Picnic Place food court, has more than 70 stores including Kaufmann's and JCPenney. Other malls include The Strip, a mile-long shopper's paradise along Interstate 77 and Portage Road, Westfield Shoppingtown, anchored by Dillard's , Kaufmann's, Sears and some 1,200 specialty stores, and Carnation Mall, with 45 specialty shops near the 113-room Comfort Inn Alliance, for anyone shopping until near dropping.
